Crux Sancta Sit Mihi Lux...Omnes supervenientes hospites tamquam Christus suscipiantur ...
Holy Rosary Abbey is a traditional Latin Rite Roman Catholic Benedictine Abbey (Vere Nullius Diocesis). We adhere to the norms of Holy Mother Church prior to the deceptive and devastating changes of Vatican II. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (Missa Principalis) and the Sacraments are administered with reverence and respect according to the centuries old form commonly referred to as the Tridentine Latin Rite; as Codified and Sanctified in perpetuity by St. Pius V and the Council of Trent, and we do this without compromise. We freely choose to live the absolute traditional community life, as all Benedictine’s lived for centuries. We are clothed in the traditional Benedictine Habit, the Holy Habit of Humility, each and every day of our life … we are buried in that same Holy Habit. Our Liturgical life begins and ends each day with the Divine Office (Divinum Officium) chanted (all seven Canonical Hours) in choir in our Monastic Oratoria Sancti Benedicti. We live our lives as directed by the Holy Rule as prescribed by our beloved St. Benedict. We are contemplative, but not cloistered. We are Benedictine … we are Catholic ! We adhere to the unchanged and Dogmatically defined precepts of Holy Mother Church as prescribed by centuries of unchanged Popes, Saints, Blesseds, Martyrs, Doctors of the Church and Dogmatic Councils. A monastery can never be merely an escape from the world. Its very purpose is to enable us to face the problems of the world at their deepest level, that is to say, in relation to God and eternal life. Everything in the Monastic life down to the minutest detail has to be viewed from this angle. So the Monastic’s of Abbatia Sanctissimi Rosarii (Holy Rosary Abbey) face the world each day; with prayer on their minds and on their lips, sacrifice: with penance and mortification being our road-map … and especially with the love of God, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, imbedded firmly in our hearts. The Spirit of silence is practiced in the Abbey, as it is through the silence of our hearts, that we hear the voice of God ... whispering ever so gently, His guidance and instruction of the life we freely have chosen to embrace. Guests are welcome to visit the Abbey, however, they are required to adhere to the Rules of the monastery which include the strict rules of modesty of dress while on the Abbey property. Men and women alike are required these norms. No t-shirts or unbecoming jeans are allowed. Modesty in sleeve length for both men and women; women must wear appropriate length dresses and modest collars. All young ladies and women are required to wear proper head coverings in any of the Chapels in the Abbey.
Retreat facilities and guest rooms are available for members of the Clergy, Religious and Laity. All retreats are private (not directed) however, guests may participate in any of the liturgical functions of the Monastics. Small groups as well as individuals are welcome. You must, however, call in advance to be assured of accommodations. Vocation inquiries are always prayerfully received. If you feel that God is calling you to live a life of simplicity, contemplation, poverty and sacrifice … you might very well be called to the Religious life as a Benedictine. Please visit our “vocations” page for additional information. We THANK-YOU kindly and pray you enjoy your visit with us.
